Lots of stories are told concerning that era.True and false of course. Some people whose families have benefited from rum running don’t like too much remembering the dark side: the very bad guys who grabbed huge profits and what they did with them after 1933…But for the common bootlegger or rum runner, what was the rule? Very simple: No cure, no pay! That’s what happened to a fair number of them when seized by the cutters. Eventually my father came back home at the end of one campaign with his share of the “gold mine”: a pair of scissors…

This is serious stuff … We have witnessed the same thing here in Fundy for a decade or so now. NOT the idea folks. Once the Fisheries Research Board of Canada Biological Station at. St. Andrews devolved into an “organ” of politicians, it has not been the same. Here’s to the truth seekers of the past!!

Heard a story about Willis Doughty from Deer Island and some others loading a very heavy flywheel from a ‘make &break ‘ engine onto a truck for the war effort , it was a struggle and Willis who was noted for being quite a dry humor stated ” I think when one of those fellas over there get shot in the head with that —they’re gonna know they been hit .”

in the Town of Digby:
One female Baltimore Oriole-
first seen December 24, still here,
at our feeders- eating fat, seeds, crumbs
was in poor shape, but is now looking much healthier.
