Over the last few days we have seen 4-6 newly hatched monarchs, but were unable to get pictures because they flew off elsewhere.

Today we spotted two; one just as I was leaving in the car. The pictures follow. This guy was fresh and beautiful but a little unsteady on its wings. It even gently bumped into the car where I was able to have it climb onto by hand before it “staggered” (or whatever the flying equivalent is!) off into the hawthorn and away on its long journey. Lots of cabbage butterflies.
